Two gigantic room-size layouts are the main draw at this impressive model-railway attraction. The larger diorama is European in character, with urban streets, town squares and outdoor restaurants, as well as a couple of mountain resorts connected by cable cars. Train fans can follow the daily schedule of individual model train runs, which are announced by a live MC.

There are also two driving simulators at one end of the layout - inquire at the front desk about reservations. Over in the next room is a smaller, HO-gauge layout recreating some of central Yokohama's main attractions, both past and present. Like the bigger diorama, this runs on an accelerated day-and-night schedule, with windows lighting up at dusk and roosters crowing at dawn when the first trains of the day start to run.

The rest of the museum shows off random historical model trains and documents the life of Nobutaro Hara, the avid collector who put this museum together. English-language guidance is available through a smartphone app.

The museum shop is located on the ground floor under the museum, and sells mostly model-railway gear. There are a few special souvenirs though - train-themed chocolates and cookies, picture books for children, and shinkansen-motif knives, forks and spoons suitable for your next train-themed dinner party.
