Penguins are the star performers at Sumida Aquarium, where they cavort in a 350-ton indoor tank at the center of a two-story atrium space. You can also get a glimpse of marine life of the Ogasawara Islands, which are officially part of Tokyo although they lie 1000km south of Tokyo Bay. There are also sections devoted to jellyfish, garden eels and coral reefs.

Overall, the aquarium is on the compact side, and may seem a bit overpriced at Y2,050, but it has some interesting exhibits and is well laid out. As with most aquariums, the gift shop here is massive. Highlights include garden-eel plush toys, fridge magnets and other goods.
